About English Congregation
KCC EC is the English Congregation of the Korean Church of Columbus (KCC). Established over 20 years ago, our congregation is a welcoming community for Christians of all ethnicities and backgrounds to worship and follow Jesus Christ together. While our members span generations—from college students to empty nesters—we are united in our mission to grow in faith and devotion to Christ and spread the gospel message to the world.
History of KCC
In June 1969, centered around Rev. Lee, Jeong-young (a professor at Otterbein College) and Superintendent Shin Do-yeol (a former missionary to Korea), the congregation began holding monthly worship services. In 1971, they invited Rev. Yeom, Pil-hyeong—who was then studying at a Methodist seminary—to serve as their first senior pastor; borrowing space at the King Avenue United Methodist Church, they began holding worship services on a bi-weekly basis. Starting in November 1972, the church began holding weekly worship services, established a church constitution, and adopted a committee structure modeled after the United Methodist Church. As a non-denominational Korean Protestant church, this congregation upholds the Old and New Testaments—the inerrant Word of God—as the standard for all its conduct. We believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior and affirm the Apostles' Creed as the fundamental statement of our faith.
In June 1980, a sanctuary was constructed at the church's current location—2825 Snouffer Rd—and worship services began in this new sanctuary. An education building was added in 1983, followed by expansions to the main sanctuary and the small chapel in 1998. In 2005, an English Ministry chapel and a new education building were constructed, and in 2019, a gymnasium and an annex building were added.
Following the first senior pastor, Rev. Yeom, Pil-hyeong, the Korean Church of Columbus has been faithfully served by a succession of senior pastors: Rev. Kim, Dae-kyun (beginning in 1979), Rev. Kim, Hyun-young (1986), and Rev. Lee, Keun-sang (1992).
Following the passing of Rev. Lee, Keun-sang in 2021—and after a four-year period without a senior pastor—God sent Rev. Chung, Jiwoong, who had previously served as a missionary in Cambodia, to become the church's fifth senior pastor in May 2025. We are currently rebuilding the foundations of our faith and, guided by our 2070 Vision, moving forward as a church dedicated to bringing life to one soul, the nations, and the next generation.
